Behold O good and sweetest Jesus, I cast myself upon my knees in Your sight, and with the most fervent desire of my soul, I pray and beseech You to impress upon my heart lively sentiments of Faith, Hope and Charity, with a true contrition for my sins and a firm purpose of amendment; while with deep affection and grief of soul I ponder within myself and mentally contemplate Your five wounds, having before my eyes the words which long ago David the prophet put in Your mouth concerning You, my Jesus: "They have pierced My hands and My feet, they have numbered all My bones."
O Lord my God, I now at this moment, readily and willfully accept at Your hands whatever kind of death it may please You to send me, with all its pains, penalties and sorrows.
When I am free from mortal sin, Lord Jesus, You and the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God and three Persons, always make Your abode with me. But now You have come into my body in a special way: my eyes have seen; my lips have touched; my tongue has tasted the material veil that hides Your real presence.
You have commanded me to receive You thus, in Holy Communion, because this is the way You want to bring to me the graces You have earned for mankind by Your Passion and Death. I have obeyed Your loving command to "eat the flesh of the Son of Man . . ." And so I know that You and Your priceless gifts are now in my possession.
But You are going to stay with me in this Sacramental way only for a very short time. Help me, then, to take advantage of these, the most precious moments of my life, so that I may make grateful use of Your gifts, and keep the fact of their presence so vividly in my memory that my use of them, in time of need, will be full and immediate.
Thus I will be cooperating with the Holy Spirit to whom the Father has given the special work of sanctifying me through the merits gained for all of us by Your Death on the cross.
It is this same Holy Spirit who is now waiting for me to ask Him for His help in the use of the graces You have brought with You into my soul. This help I must have in order that my soul may be made more and more into the likeness of Your Perfect Soul.
This is why You come to me in Holy Communion. You want my soul to become more like Yours, for then all that I do, or refuse to do, as a responsible human being will more closely resemble the pattern of Your life on each, when, long ago, You lived as a Man, visibly, in the midst of men.
Now You want me, and others who serve You, to continue the work of giving good example by living Christ-like lives so far as we are able.
But I must make haste. This special visit of Yours, under the appearances of bread and wine, is nearly at an end. Please help me see which of Your gifts I shall need most today, this morning, within the next hour.
Strengthen my will for its cooperation with the Holy Spirit. Build up and make more alert that virtue of (mention the virtue you think will be most needed) which is best adapted to combat triumphantly the temptation that so often, and sometimes so violently, attacks me.
Thank You, Dear Lord, for this all too brief visit. Thank You for the special help that I must use today in thoughtful cooperation with the Holy Spirit.
It is this help, this special grace, that You are now assisting me to select from the many graces within my soul, eager and convincing witnesses of Your Sacramental Presence, O Divine Victim of Calvary.
Amen.
